Frequently Asked Questions

What if I haven't played 5 aside before?
We cater for teams of all abilities so don't panic! We usually ask teams to play a grading game before you actually start playing in the league. This allows us to match you with teams of similar ability, ensuring you don't get hammered 10-0 every week, but at the same time making sure you don't just walk away with the title!

What is the cost of matches?
Match prices sometimes vary slightly from one area to the next, however, you can usually expect to pay around £20 per match. This works out at around £2.50 per player, the cost of a pint of beer!

Is there a joining fee?
No. Affiliation, joining and membership fees are simply a way of making more money from you (other league operators won't tell you that though!). There is nothing to pay in terms of affiliation fees, membership fees or even a deposit, you simply sign up for one of our leagues and start playing.

Do we need to be a proper registered team?
No, our leagues are open to all comers. You may be friends from the pub, workmates or an already established team. It doesn't matter, we take care of the organisation so you can just get on with playing your match.

How many teams are there in each division?
There are generally 8-10 teams in each division. This may vary slightly from time to time.

How long does each season last and how long are the matches?
Each season lasts between 14-18 weeks and matches are 26 minutes, 13 minutes each way.

How many players can play in any one game and how many can we register in our squad for the season?
Only 8 players for 5-a-side (9 for 6-a-side leagues) can be used during one afternoon/evening of football. However, you can use an unlimited number of players during the season. This flexible squad system ensures that you always have back up should players get injured or become unavailable.

Will there be promotion and relegation?
Yes, normally two teams are promoted and 2 are relegated from each division.

What type of footwear/clothing should be worn?
Trainers are the required footwear for indoor leagues, for outdoor leagues either astroturf trainers or moulded boots, whilst caps (excluding goalkeepers) and jeans are not allowed. You should wear the same coloured shirts if possible, if not we will provide you with bibs.

What sort of quality are your match balls?
The quality of match balls is of vital importance to us. We understand that playing with a cheap ball which goes out of shape easily (as some league providers do to cut costs) is unacceptable to players participating in the leagues. That is why we use Mitre Indoor League balls (Mitre's top of the range indoor ball) for our indoor leagues. For outdoor leagues we use Brazil 1970 Football Company all weather footballs. Of course, quality match balls cost us more money, however it is certainly worth it judging by the feedback we regularly receive from players who play in our leagues.

What happens if our opponents don't turn up?
This is a very rare occurrence as all teams join the league for a full season and not turning up means they are risking their place in the league! However, when it does occur we will arrange a friendly game for you and you will be awarded the points for the game.

What if a team drops out of the league?
We usually have a waiting list so they can be immediately replaced. However, where this is not possible we will arrange a friendly game for you.

Do you supply the match ball?
Yes, we supply the match ball, the officials and all other equipment.

Do you award prizes for winners/runners-up?
Yes, winning teams have the choice of either trophies or a team cash prize (£50). The winners of each division are given the choice of prizes whilst the runners-up of each division receive individual trophies. There are also individual awards for Top Goalscorers in each division. We offer larger cash prizes for area tournaments with a top prize of £1000 for our National Cup.

This all sounds exciting, so how do I join?
